Enjoy 4th of July in Monterey County

As your Central California real estate agent, I recently shared a list of 4th of July events in SLO County. Today, here’s a list of events taking place around Monterey County in honor of America’s birthday. Mark your calendar and enjoy your holiday weekend!

  • Get up bright and early and enjoy a Pancake Breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at Monterey Fire Station #1 on Pacific Street. Cost is $10 and proceeds benefit MY Museum. Kids can enjoy face painting and making crafts while adults meet local firefighters and enjoy pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice.
  • Before 10 a.m., head to Downtown Monterey for the Monterey 4th of July Parade! Thousands of people gather to enjoy patriotic floats, specialty units, musical performances and guest celebrities. The parade lasts about an hour.
  • After the parade, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., head to the Lawn Party at Colton Hall! Enjoy live music by Operation Rock, Pop Fiction!, Locked N Loaded and Foreverland. Kids can enjoy free carnival booths and games, face painting, balloon artists and jump houses. There will be lots of food for sale and a free bike valet.
  • After the parade, you could also visit Cooper-Molera Adobe for their July 4th Living History Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers dressed in historic costumes will demonstrate 19th century fun for the whole family, including fandango, making ropes and playing games from the era. Tours are also offered. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for kids and free for ages five and under.
  • At 7 p.m, head to the Patriotic Concert at Golden State Theater! The Monterey County Pops, a 40-piece orchestra, will perform patriotic music in honor of America’s birthday. The music will be accompanied by videos created by local artists. It’s free!
  • In Pacific Grove, you can enjoy a 4th of July BBQ from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Head to Caledonia Park for a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a homemade barbecue with chicken or hot dogs for $10, and live entertainment by The Firefly Band and Tom Faia & The Juice.
  • In King City, head to City Park for their hometown parade! The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. through downtown, followed by a celebration at 11:30 a.m. that includes live entertainment, vendors, a talent show, a dunk tank, a kids’ zone and more. The night wraps up with a fireworks show at the King City Fairgrounds!
  • In Carmel, enjoy a free, old-fashioned 4th of July Celebration at Devendorf Park from noon to 4 p.m. Entertainment will take place from Cheeky Spanks, and lots of fun and games will be available for kids. Food includes hot dogs, cold drinks, chips, ice cream, watermelon and cookies, and it’s all free! Get there early, while it lasts.
