California Wine Month in Central California!

WineSeptember begins tomorrow, which also happens to be California Wine Month! September marks the beginning of harvest season in California, so there are many events and activities taking place all month long to celebrate this special time in Central California. As your Central California real estate agent, I am here to fill you in!

First off, it’s important to realize how significant the wine industry is to Central California, and to the state of California as a whole. Our state is the fourth largest wine producer in the world and makes 90 percent of American wine! The latest study showed that California wine is responsible for $18.5 billion in retail wine sales in the U.S. alone.

Wine production is incredibly important to the California economy as well. It is the number one agricultural product that comes out of our state. Full-time equivalent jobs include 309,000 in California, with $10.1 billion wages paid. The vineyards and wineries are also said to bring in 19.7 million visitors.

The wine tastes amazing, too! California wines have been around for nearly 250 years, so the region has the experience necessary to create amazing flavors and varieties. Locals and tourists alike flock to local Central California vineyards and wineries for wine tastings, local music, good food and other activities. There is at least one event taking place at a winery in the Central California region every day!

If you’re looking for family-friendly wineries, there are plenty of those as well. Bring the kids to Ancient Peaks Winery for a zip line adventure tour, Eberly Winery has bocce ball and an underground caves tour, Tobin James Cellars has free video games, Clauteire Winery is a virtual fun house with wigs and mirror room, and at Castoro Cellars, kids can visit with Harley the pig.

Aside from everyday events and activities, significant events take place each year the draw hundreds, if not thousands, of attendees. For example, this month, you have SAVOR the Central Coast and Beaverstock to look forward to. In October is Paso Robles Harvest Wine Weekend. All three events occur over a series of days, with loads of activities to partake in and wines and food to savor.

Whether you enjoy wine or not, California Wine Month is a good reminder of how important the wine industry is to our state, and how many jobs and revenue it provides. Plus, most vineyards are family-owned, so it’s an easy industry to support.

Enjoy California Wine Month by attending a local event, purchasing tickets to a large weekend event, or purchasing local bottles of wine when you get a taste for it. You can’t beat the flavors and varieties of Central California wines!
