“Locals Only” Attractions in Monterey County

Local Monterey County Attractions

Central California is a wonderful places to live and visit! We have a solid blend of locals and tourists enjoying the same beautiful nature areas and local businesses and attractions. However, there are also some businesses and attractions that only the locals know about! As your Central California real estate agent, I’d like to share some of the ones located in Monterey County with you.

If you are new to the area, put some of these on your bucket list. If you’ve lived here for a long time now, see how many of these you have been to!

1.  La Playa, Happy Hour. La Playa is located in Carmel by the Sea, and every Sunday, they have a “Bud Allen Hour” from 5 to 5:10 p.m. During those ten minutes, you can order well drinks for ten cents. Dig up loose change and buy yourself a libation or two before the week starts. You could even get crazy and buy everyone a round! You’ll make new friends quickly that way.

2.  Pfeiffer Beach, Sunset Tunnel. Pfeiffer Beach is located along Highway One in Big Sur and is a popular place for visitors and locals. However, December and January are the prime months for locals to stop by, because of the way the glow from sunsets lines up with natural rock bridge. Sunlight fills up the opening and creates an orange glow on the ocean. It’s beauty like you haven’t seen before!

3.  17-Mile Drive, Pebble Beach. This is a very popular drive among tourists, but locals know it is best experienced on bike! By biking this route, you can make your way through golf courses, past million dollar homes and along iconic ocean views. At a slower pace, you can really take in the beauty of it all! See Monterey recommends stopping at The Bench at The Lodge at the Pebble for dessert afterwards.

4.  River Road Wine Tasting. Locals can appreciate the quaint boutique wineries located along River Road Wine Trail in Salinas Valley more than tourists perhaps can. Often, the person pouring your wine is the winemaker themselves! See Monterey recommends enjoying views of the valley floor from Paraiso Vineyards, or hopping on an ATV Tour at Hahn Winery.

5.  Mission Ranch, Jazz Piano Lounge. At Mission Ranch in Carmel, the place turns into a “Sing-Along Piano Bar” every night from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Watch people sing or join in the fun! You can enjoy gorgeous mountain views at the same time. Then on Sundays, head there for their “Jazz Buffet Brunch” from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., featuring Gennady’s Jazz Duo.
