4 Best SLO County Towns to Visit

SLO County Towns
Best Towns in SLO County

As a San Luis Obispo County resident, you know how many small towns we have along Highway 1 and throughout the Central Coast region! If a traveler tried to stop and spend time at each one, they’d be traveling for months. Luckily, as local residents, we have all the time in the world to continually travel and explore the area.

A recent blog post from Travel Pulse referred to the Central Coast as “where cowboys meet surfers,” because of the mix of rural towns and beach towns. They named some of their favorite small towns along Highway 1, and as a Central Coast real estate agent, I love their choices!

Here’s what they had to say:

Paso Robles – Travel Pulse says that this is the perfect destination for wine lovers who want to enjoy a peaceful few days in wine country. The rolling green hills are a great escape from the busier, hectic wine areas further north. They recommend visiting a vineyard, or biking from vineyard to vineyard with Paso Bike Tours, and then indulge in a meal at Thomas Hill Organics.

Pismo Beach – This is Travel Pulse’s pick for where to chill out on the beach. Pismo has some of the best stretches of coast in the region, with rocky cliffs, sandy beaches and a mountain backdrop. They recommend Shell Beach for its visually impressive sea cliffs, or Pismo State Beach for camping. Rent a surfboard from Pismo Beach Pier, and then chow down on notorious clam chowder.

Morro Bay – You can’t miss it, because of the large rock formation that protrudes from the ocean just offshore. Visit its harbor area, where restaurants, bars and inns line the waterfront as boats come and go. Travel Pulse recommends walking the coastline, setting sail with Red Anchor Charters, or hiking in Montana de Oro State Park. Order the catch of the day at a local restaurant!

San Luis Obispo – Better known as SLO to locals, this city is surrounded by mountains in a valley setting. Here you’ll find everything you could want, from breweries and bars to restaurants and farmer’s markets. Taste wine in the Edna Valley Wine region, hike on Bishop Peak Trail, admire the Spanish Mission-style architecture and indulge in Santa Maria-style barbecue.

See what else the Travel Pulse blog post has to say about these four Central Coast towns. If you were to recommend four towns for SLO County or Monterey County visitors, which ones would you choose? Share by leaving a comment!
