Paso Robles in National News Again!

Paso Robles Wine
Disc Golf got Paso Robles in the news!

If you live somewhere on the Central Coast, you already know what a treasure Paso Robles is to our region. The community is filled with some of the best wine varieties in the country, gorgeous vineyards, a charming downtown, friendly people, delicious artisan food and thriving local businesses!

However, when you see Paso Robles mentioned in national news time and time again, you know big things are happening for our charming Central Coast town. As your Central Coast real estate agent, I’d like to share the details that a Forbes article recently shared about the town that is getting redefined as “forward-thinking, responsive and hospitable.”

According to Forbes, the specific things redefining Paso Robles right now are disc golf, craft spirits and water monitoring systems. If you find yourself surprised, allow me to summarize what they had to say!

Disc Golf

Did you know that Castoro Cellars added the Whale Rock Disc Golf Course to their vineyard? To Forbes, this is a perfect example of how innovative Paso Robles wineries are. They added a fun, outdoor, youthful experience to the typical winery visit.

Disc golfers have a loyal following, but if you’ve never played, the two-mile course is great for beginners and experts! It’s a fun activity to enjoy while sipping wine and learning the history of the ranch.

Craft Spirits

Winemaker Alex Villicana and his wife Monica planted 13 acres of vineyards and have been creating quality Bordeaux and Rhone-style blends since the 1990s. They never planned on being distillers of vodka and gin, but they too found an innovative way to reuse what would otherwise be waste from wine production.

Villicana realized that he could ferment the saignee, which is free-run juice bled from red grapes and often throw away, and then triple distill it to make Re:find handcrafted vodka and gin!

Drought-Resistant Technology

It’s no secret that the Central Coast has been burdened by drought conditions for many years now. This has put an extra burden on our winemakers. But because Paso Robles is so innovative, winemakers are of course finding ways to grow premium wine grapes while using the least amount of water.

At Halter Ranch Vineyards, for example, Vineyard Manager Pope is implanting two monitoring systems. One monitors sap flow that’s flowing in a vine, and the other tracks pockets of warm, humid air above a vines’ canopy. These determine how much stress the plant is under, and how much water it needs. Plenty of local vineyards have already implemented grape-growing techniques that use little to no water.

Isn’t it great to see the forward-thinking people and innovations taking place in Paso Robles in national news? Want to join our community?
